It’s hard to ignore when it’s time to start outsourcing your hiring, but you may feel so buried in your work that you don’t even notice that it’s time to start doing something a little different. Here are five signs it may be time for a change.
1. You don’t have time to fire – if you’ve postponed firing an unfit employee, or you’ve delayed keeping the wrong person in a position, it’s definitely time to seek some outside help.
2. Your team is suffering because they are doing an unfilled job. Is your team working overtime, filling in for a lost employee, or are their overwhelmed working on tasks that are out of their normal scope?
3. You haven’t made time to post an ad about your opening. You have a job opening, yet you haven’t posted it on the company website, outside sources, or other places where you normally find a new hire. If you aren’t looking for a new candidate, it could be a long time before they walk in your day.
4. You’ve got stacks of resumes to reviews and no time to review them. Resumes have come through, yet you haven’t the time to review them, schedule interviews, and move on to the next phase.
5. Your recent new hires haven’t worked out. If you’ve hired unsuccessfully and don’t want to make the same mistakes again, it’s a good time to consider working with an outside source.
A staffing service can take away the demands of these five symptoms of needing outside source. If you would like to know more about how our services could support your hiring endeavors, please visit our services page.

I’ve always known that FORTIS and my philosophy on staffing was different than other companies, so a few months ago I enlisted the help of an outside third party to interview some of my previous clients and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
There were many things that came out of the information, like delivering quality applicants, a fast turnaround time, and an incredible retention rate but the one thing that came up over and over again was that we at FORTIS actually listen. As a small, privately owned staffing service we take incredible pride in really understanding and meeting the needs of our clients but because we just assume it’s part of the process we’ve overlooked how extremely important this is to our clients.
We understand that being heard isn’t just important, it’s critical. When a staffing company doesn’t listen to their client it creates more stress, wasted time, and poor candidate selections. What we do know is that the simple act of listening and hearing a person’s needs goes a long way and a trait that isn’t easy to come by.
We know and have seen that a lot of our colleagues within this industry aren’t concerned about the long term relationship and just the immediate hire at hand, but we feel differently at FORTIS we are here to listen, to strive to understand your needs, the companies needs, the position and what you are looking for, and the dynamics of your company culture so we can partner with you for life.

Hiring a staffing firm can get a lot of candidates at your front door, but hiring an exceptional staffing firm will get you just a few of the most qualified candidates.
You can quickly identify an exceptional staffing service by a few simple things:
1. They don’t throw every applicant back at you for an interview.
2. They take the time to understand the needs of the company for the position, get to know the company culture, and hire based on all factors.
3. They don’t disappear after they get their check.
It’s hard to identify the wrong staffing company when you first start to work with them. They may promise big things, and ensure only quality candidates but you’ll soon discover how much they listened to you by the number of candidates you get and when they grow frustrated that none of them were the right fit. It can be frustrating working with a staffing service that is only concerned with filling the position, and not taking the proper time to find the best applicant for the job.
However, you’ll know you have an exceptional staffing service when you only get a few select people sent over to you who are all exceptional themselves. Many staffing companies don’t take the time upfront to understand a company’s needs, but the extra time at the beginning is what sets a staffing firm apart.
If you feel that the staffing service isn’t hearing your needs, sending you the right people, or delivering what they promised it may be time to end the relationship and move on. Hiring the wrong staffing service is just as costly as hiring the wrong person. Exceptional staffing firms do exist and when you have the chance to work with one you’ll never want to do the hiring process on your own again.
